Our story

The call always comes at night.

For families split between two countries, bad news arrives across a time zone. Monica was built for what happens next.

If you have family back home, you know the call.

Your phone lights up at 2 a.m. It’s your sister, or an auntie, or a cousin you haven’t spoken to since the last funeral. Mum has been to the hospital. The doctor says it’s serious. The doctor says surgery. The doctor said a lot of things, and nobody wrote them down.

Then the questions start. Is the diagnosis right? Is surgery the only option? Should we fly her to India? Who has the scans? Someone on the family WhatsApp knows someone who is a doctor. Someone else read something online. Everyone has an opinion. Nobody has the whole picture.

And you, the one abroad, the one everyone expects to have answers, the one who will probably pay, are sitting in the dark 5,000 miles away, trying to make one of the biggest decisions of your parent’s life on guesswork.

We built Monica so no family has to decide in the dark.

Why me

I’m Victor, the founder of Monica.

I’ve spent more than twenty years in clinical research, most of it in oncology and rare disease. I’ve worked alongside some of the best physicians and hospitals in the world. I’ve seen what a careful second look can do. It can confirm a diagnosis and give a family peace. It can change a treatment plan. Sometimes it changes everything.

That’s the gap Monica closes.

What we built

Expert eyes on care back home.

We collect your parent’s records directly from the hospital in Ghana. A US clinician reviews them, explains what they mean in plain language, and tells you honestly whether a specialist’s opinion is worth getting. Then we sit down with your family, and with a liaison doctor in Ghana who can speak to your parent’s doctor directly, and we help you decide what comes next.

We’re not here to replace your parent’s doctor. We’re here to stand beside them, and beside you.

LAGOSACCRA
The same call comes from Kumasi, Accra, Lagos and Abuja.

The quieter conversation

There’s another conversation families don’t have.

Many of us grew up with fathers and uncles who never talked about their health. Not their blood pressure, not their prostate, and certainly not what was happening in the bedroom. They carried it quietly, until they couldn’t.

So Monica also gives men a private place to ask. One clinician, one honest conversation, and a check on the whole picture, because the problem you came in with is sometimes the first sign of something bigger.

Men’s health, privately →

Monica is for the daughter on the 2 a.m. call. For the son who’s been asked to pay before anyone has explained anything. For the father who decides what his children get to know. For the man who’s been putting off one conversation for years.

You carry your family across an ocean every day. Your care should be able to make that crossing too.

Our why

Because distance shouldn’t decide.

  • Because a diagnosis is not a decision.

  • Because the best answer shouldn’t depend on who you happen to know.

  • Because “just in case” is not a reason to spend a family’s savings on a flight.

  • Because the person whose body it is should decide who knows.

  • Because a man shouldn’t have to wait until it’s serious to ask a simple question.

  • Because going home should feel like going home, not like a risk.

  • Because families who send money, prayers and love across an ocean deserve care that can cross it too.

That’s why we built Monica.

What we believe

  • The patient decides.

Whoever pays, the person whose health it is chooses what’s shared and with whom. Always.

  • Honest over hopeful.

Sometimes a second look confirms the first. We’ll tell you that just as clearly as we’ll tell you when it doesn’t.

  • Here and there.

Our clinicians are in the US, our team is on the ground in Ghana, and our families live in both. So do we.
